Raoul Pop > APS film, winter of 1998. Somewhere on the side of a field. I loved how the sun's rays created a haze as they filtered through the branches of this tree. That light was beautiful.
Raoul Pop > APS film, winter of 1998. The empty road. I'm outside a village somewhere, and the car that you can barely make out in this photo was my mode of conveyance during my travels that winter. It was a Dacia 1310, an automobile designed during Communist times. Its engine used technology from the 1960s, it didn't start when it was cold, still had a choke, an antique gear shifter, and poor brakes. But with some coddling, it managed to get me from point A to point B. Did I mention it had no AC, only a flap you'd close and open to let in heat from the engine?

Raoul Pop > APS film, winter of 1998. An orchard (don't ask me what kind) lays before me. A flat field extends in the background, and a few houses are barely visible, but one gets the feeling we're not in the low-lying fields, but on a plateau somewhere. You'd be right to think that. I believe I took this photo somewhere in Maramures, after I'd climbed up a twisty road for a considerable amount of time.

Raoul Pop > APS film, winter of 1998. The slippery, somewhat icy road lies before me. Trees with their branches laden with snow line the roadside and the hillside that rises up on the right.
